Black, with a huge brown head. toasty, chocolatey aroma - flavor is dark toast and ash and chocolate and coffee. Some winey notes towards the finish. I enjoyed this one.

12oz - Thick black liquid under dark tan head of large bubbles. Good lace, but no real nose. Nice roasted fromt and hoppy back, but really nothing bridging the two. Better than most locals.

Nice aroma of black malt and burnt toffee. Huge head sits atop a lightly black beer. Very carbonated, somewhat acrid flavor, lots of black malt, some licorice and sourness. Not very sweet. Hmmmm.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of molasses and burnt, resin for the hops and light earth for the yeast, with wood, licorice and a faint berry smell in the background. Head is huge, frothy, light brown with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is black. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderately acidic to start and finishes moderately acidic and bitter witha touch of sourness. Palate is medium, dry and watery and has a carbonation between lively and fizzy. It finishes moderately astringent. Too many off aromas and flavors sank this beer.

The aroma is awesome with lots of chocolate, coffee, caramel, and roasted malt. The appearance is dark brown with a large head. The palate is thin for the style. Overall I like it.

Pours a pretty dark black color, and a massively foaming head (loud pop when prying the crown). Head was big fizzy bubbles, tan colored. Aroma has bittersweet cocoa, moderate roast, slight tannic astringency. I’m waiting awhile for the head to dissipate and maybe for the carbonation to smooth out a little. Big dark chocolate flavors, and a slight carbonic bite (retains a fairly fizzy mouthfeel which potentially counters any of the smoothing richness the oatmeal might have provided). Mostly dry finish with some roast and tannins. Not especially sweet at all.
