| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 21, 2006 I find this beer hard to fault, as its better than most of the belhaven range. Aroma is slightly minimal though some malt character kicking through. Taste is More going to the hops, though maybe a little under hopped. Alright for a 3% ale. leaparsons (4748), Leicester, Leicestershire, England
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 16, 2004 Dark brown with a bubbly head. Aromas are sweet, sour and earthy. Flavours are fruity malts with sulphur. Some fruit sourness, too. A bit thin, but then it is 2.9%. OK for a festival starter. cgarvieuk (4212), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Sep 17, 2002 A dark sweet bitter with the familiar ’rusty nails’ bite of scottish beers. The aroma has a warming baked apples and brown sugar feel and the spicey hop character has cinnamon, nutmeg and raisins. The beer is decidely complex and lip-smackingly moreish. Definitely suitable as a Christmas beer and much more warming and satisfying that the low ABV would suggest.
All of the above, but very thin - more like Irn Bru than a real beer. On offerings like this one wonders how the brewery has survived so long to remain Scotland’s oldest brewer. Rating 3
