[662-20070923] Cask @ Prince of Wales (Didcot, OX; called "Belhaven Original Smooth & Creamy"). Burnt toffee and sweet pickled leafy cabbage aroma. Clear, brown amber body with a small bubbly off-white head. Mild grainy base flavour has a very nice sweet aftertaste. Medium body is slightly grainy. Very interesting aroma and aftertaste, drinkable; seems in good condition.

Cask@Norwich Beer Festival ’07. Copper in colour with a small bubbly head. Fruity aroma with some hops. This transfers to the taste and there is a clear bitter aftertaste..

[Cask from Paisley Beer Festival] Ruddy brown, moderate head. Slightly stale smelling, some caramel. Medium body, sweet but with not much in the way of hops to balance.

My previous experience with Belhaven hasn’t left me with an impression of a brewery I prefer, far from, so I must admit I was a bit negative, when I opened this ale. But now I must admit, that this beer is a nice one. The head is beautiful, the color is nice and so is the aroma. The flavour starts with many notes of fruit and hop, the bitterness is moderate in the beginning, but it rises and lasts quite a while. Just before the end I sense notes of licorice and roasted malt.

On tap at Belhaven brewery 270307. Nice copper color with a thick head. nothing spectacular, but a very good session beer. I drank many of these in Edinburgh over the course of a week.

Cask at Old Bank, 24.02.07. Clear copper colour, perhaps with a hint of haziness, and a tiny, bubbly white head. Sweetish fruity aroma with grassy, earthy hops. Very mild strawberry-like flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Malt and hops i bitterish fruity aftertaste. Absolutely no carbonation, light to medium body, dry mouthfeel. Bit too watery, even for a real ale.

Casked. Something between brown and red colour, small off-white bubbly head. Aroma is fruit, wood, some slight caramel and grass. Flavour is caramel malts, fruity hops and some wooden hints. Not much aftertaste.
