| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Jun 26, 2005 [bottle from sainsburys] noses an offensive plastic fruity strawberry smell, remensicent of icepoles. body is lacking, but one of the better areas of this outrageously bad beer, finish is unnoticable since i am still cringing at the smell and taste of this fucker. what a deeply upsetting beer, espescially after i have just tasted westy for the first time. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 24, 2005 Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Copper colour. No head. Aroma not unpleasant - autumn fruits - bramble jam, peach, blackcurrant juice like ribena. Flavour is nothing like this with the usual Belhaven smoky vibe taking over, creating a sourness which certainly makes it complex. Sour fruity smoky finish.
I could go out on a limb, patriotically, and suggest that the Belhaven house taste (peaty smoke) adds complexity to beers like this in a similar way that the lambic thing does, making it unique.
But I don’t really like it.
Hmm. I might make Belhaven my project. Ancient brewery. Unique taste that no-one is that keen on. Develop a taste for it. Convince you lot and Michael Jackson. Gloss over the fact that their nitro-keg beers are palpably awful (Nitro + peat = vinegar apparently).
Sounds like too much work. Perhaps not. scotty (832), Scotland
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 4, 2005 Looks nothing like a continental fruit beer, lacks colour(looks like a normal beer!) Hint of fruit on the nose, and pretty much the same on the tongue, cant decide what fruit it is, there’s nothing on the label to say what they use. There’s a picture of stawberries, blackcurrants, brambles and raspberries, but I cant detect any of these...disappointing. Morrisons Hawick 4 for £5. Still new to rating, but I guiltily admit I enjoyed about a dozen of these last summer when they were available. *Patio beer* - good with salad, hot dogs. Aroma and flavour are sweet fruits (apples, pears, pineapples and various ripe berries), some sweet-dough yeastiness; aroma not as overwhelming as some, tasted more like a beer than other fruities. Poured coppery-red colour. Not much body and the aftertaste sweeter than the taste, strangely. hefevice (72), Brisbane beer desert, Australia
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | May 27, 2005 Bottle. Lovely amber colour with pink tinge and stuff all head. Smelt like the artificial flavouring used in purple pastel (sp?) sweets with mild acrid stale urine finish. Artificial purple flavour also with a dry bitter finish. Watery palate. Bleagh! Filtered, not much head. Dry (which is nice) but also bitter(which is not so nice considering the natural sweetness from the fruit - it collides in my subtle opinion). Points for trying but Belhaven should stick to what they do best. 290204 MesandSim (5911), London, Greater London, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 12, 2005 a sim rate:
Unlike in most Belgian fruit beers, the fruit flavour is subtle and not too overwhelming. You still get an ale taste peeking through, which, to a beer drinker is refreshing and welcomed. It’s very drinkable and leaves a great malty aftertaste.
