| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 16, 2006 Bottle. Pours a very dark amber/chestnut colour which plunges into black at the center of the glass. Nice, lasting yellowish head with elegant lacing. Aromas a little withheld, with a slightly unpleasant smell of manure and pipe smoke. Very interesting woody flavour which gradually evolves to reveal an intense flavours of liquorice sticks. Hints of the bitterness of artichokes and Brussels sprouts throughout. Mouthfeel is a little weird though: very watery with a slightly acidic aftertaste, reminiscent of the acidity in certain types of goat’s cheese. Ends on a bizarrely sweet note which throws the whole palate out of balance and ruins the beer, I’m afraid. Quite unpleasant to drink, despite a few interesting aromas.
