Bitter, malty taste with some sweetness, a hint of roastiness and grassy hoppy aromas. Quite smooth and light mouthfeel. Long, dry aftertaste with certain bitter elements. Didn’t really get much of a sample, after most of the head dissipated. Toasty maltiness, some cereal grains, and just a bit of spicy hops in the finish. Bland. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2008 Poured brown with red tints from the 14.9 ounce "widget" can. Typical huge boiling head from that type of can. Good amount of lacing, some foam left in the bottom of the glass. My can said 5.2 % abv. which is higher than the ratebeer listing. First sip is sweet roasted malts with the bitter hops following. Nice dry finish. Overall a tasty brew. Cost was $2.29 US for the can. Nice occasional pleasure a bit pricey for frequent consumption. jezmez68 (334), Chesterton, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 9, 2008 Brownish red, nice head. Taste is more malty than hoppy, but pretty balanced. Didn’t catch my attention like Smithwick’s, but still, an overall decent Scottish ale. RedSox2004 (362), Pacific Palisades, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Clear and bright red with a generous head that stayed strong and left very nice lacing. Bread and toffee were clear in the aroma, with a touch of smokiness. Same with the taste, which also included subtle caramel and hops that resulted in a well-balanced beer. Slightly slick on the tongue, but very drinkable. Glad it’s only 3.9% so I can have a few. jstrott (9), Georgia, USA does not count | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 8, 2008 dark rich brown color, little head, sort of smoky tasting, but good all around gunnfryd (3641), Kristiansand, Norway
