Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano, TX. Pours black with faint ruby hues and nice tan head. Aroma of dark roast, faint baking chocolate, and some nuttiness. Flavor of dark roasted malt, nuts, some baking chocolate. Mouth feel is medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Over all, not bad at all.....

Bottle from The Beer Authority, aroma of chocolate and roast. Poured a full mocha colored head and a pitch black body. Smooth on the palate and rich in sweet and roasty malts. This is one tasty stout.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (scorched popcorn, chocolate syrup, roasted grain), with notes of diacetyl and vanilla. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation. A poor example, no doubt. Only good thing is the appearance, really. Buttered scorched popcorn dominates the aroma with some low-quality chocolate syrup (a la Hershey’s) bringing up the rear. Saccharine sweetness with a somewhat dirty aftertaste. Down the drain it went.

Bottle. High creamy and long lasting light brown head. Clear very dark red brown body, almost black in fact. Roasted malt choccolate aroma with just a hint of alcohol. Alcohol is also a bit disturbant in the flavor of choccolate and caramel. The hops bitterness is subdued but the beer does not feel too sweet. Low carbonation. Long sweet aftertaste.

A nice almost black beer with a tan 2 finger head that has good retention. The aroma is just a bit too sweet with strong molasses with some mustiness and chocolate. Cappuccino flavor is dominant. Dark fruit and zingy hops also. This is a beer with a very thick sweetness. Finish is not just tart but even a bit sour and the aroma becomes somewhat smoky.

Bottle as shown. Pours a very dark brown with a large frothy tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a roasted malt with sweet chocolate and caramel. Good sticky lacing along the glass. Full body with roasted malt coffee and chocolate. Easy to drink with a nice dry finish. A very good stout from Belhaven.
