The first impression of the aroma is vinous, with a fruitiness of ripe strawberries. The obligatory, lightly sweet cocoa roastiness pairs with a whiff of wooden barrels and just the slightest hint of earthy hops. Fine coffee in the flavour, sweet dark chocolate, leading to a balanced, bittersweet finish. Toasty malts. Cherry pie? Mouthfeel is lighter medium and creamy with warming alcohol. Pretty nice, although I have to say that the flavour is much lighter than the aroma. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA

Flavor has pronounced roasted character, supported by dark chocolate, nut and hops. Mouthfeel is smooth, a bit on the thin side. Overall a good session stout, although a bit pricey for the bottle. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Bottle. Pours almost jet black, with dark brown edges visible only against the light, and a light tan head that lasts a while and leaves a lot of lacing. Nose is fairly straightforward with roasted malts up front and subtler hints of dark chocolate and coffee in the background. Flavour is similar to the aroma but is also quite creamy. Overall a very enjoyable and surprisingly smooth stout. jcwattsrugger (5563), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
