Pours black with thick beige head.
Aroma of yeast, cereal, some peat with notes of chocolate and caramel malts.
Flavor, peat, caramel malts and hints of chocolate, some dark fruits; prunes, light roast with some smoke elements and a light bitter hop finish.
Amazing stout with some light elements of actual scotch ale.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 24, 2009 Pours brown-black with a fairly large, slowly dissipating tan head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, dirt, coffee, baker’s chocolate, and twigs. Tastes fairly caramelly, with dark chocolate, toffee, cappucino, dirt, wood, and earthy leafy hops. FInishes with sweet characteristics first (toffee, caramel, chocolate), followed by a mellow sweetened coffee and nutty fade. Medium bodied, slick, but thicker than the average stout. Not too creamy though. Still, I really enjoy this and the glass never gets boring or tiresome. Good. TChrome (1299), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2009 Beer pours very dark brown, almost black with a thick, totally retained tan colored head. Aroma is light chocolate, roasted coffee and earth, all quite subtle. Flavors of coffee, milk chocolate and earth. Just a hint of hop spiciness as well. Pretty tasty beer. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 21, 2009 The half a liter bottle poured out deep dark with amber edges and thin tan head. The aroma is, wow! with chocolate, mild caramel and just the right level of earthiness blending together. The taste is smooth and rich with toffee and chocolate moving toward fudge brownie. By midway earthiness joins in as well and it seems to tastes like rich and modestly sweet dark German bread to go along with rich dark fruity esters. Wow again, I love the way these notes come together with the added bonus of a creamy mouthfeel. poisoneddwarf (201), Rathdrum, Idaho, USA

Tastes like a good U.K. stout. Not on a par with Samuel Smiths, but it’s very satisfying. rozsoma (60), Győr, Hungary

Has a delightful apperence: black hue with a creamy brown head, and fllat carbonation. I can feel that it is made with very light water (just like the other Belhavens) Aroma of roasted malts, toffee and chocolate. The dark thick body is a bit syrupy and gently hide the 7%(!) alcohol, that you only realize when you drink the beer. Flavour is firstly heavy sweet which turns to a moderate bitterness as you swallow the mouthful and fill the mouth a long time. What else could i say: thank you Belhaven. rlgk (3378), Vårgårda, Sweden
