Opaque black color with a medium tan head that dissipates quickly. Light roasted malt aroma with a hint of dark fruit and chocolate. Very nice caramel, chocolate and dark fruit flavors. Thin feel with medium-soft carbonation. Very flavorful, but not too over the top. Very good session beer.

Bottle. Brownish black with a big frothy cappuccino coloured head. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, some vanilla and sweetened coffee. Flavour of caramel, roasted notes, chocolate and lactose. Smooth and soft. Very drinkable.

500 ml. Opaque with a creamy head that mostly lasts. Earthy caramel and coffee aroma. Front flavors of caramel and chocolate with some finishing touches of coffee, chalk, and light char. Medium-heavy body is dry and mostly smooth.

Bottle from the Binny’s in Willowbrook, IL: It poured an intense dark brown body, nearly black, with a creamy tan head and some slippery lace. The aroma was lightly roasted dark malt, bittersweet chocolate, dark dried fruit, and a splash of coffee. The flavor had the addition of soft nuts, charred wood, and a touch of alcohol. Very nicely blended together and smooth to drink, this is a stout that this hophead can see repeating. Nice.

Bottle and served in a standard no-nik pint glass: Pour deep brown with a lovely creamy tan head and fairly good lace, amazing what you can do without a nitro widget? The aroma has notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut, molasses, faint dusty yeast, prune and coffee esters. The taste is moderately malt forward with sweet chocolate overtones and toasty bread. A nice coffee and slightly salty note adds balance and complexity. Finished with a hint of woody smoke, very laid back hop bitterness and dark fruit acidity. The mouth feel appears thinner than you expected from the pour but it actually adds to the drinkability of the beer. All in all I found this to be a pleasant surprise, an easy drinking yet complex enough stout.

Black body with a well lasting tan head. Despite other reviews I get more coffee than the chocolate, smooth in the taste, balanced with decent hop presence, and notice the alcohol late in the peace.
