Nose is sweet malts with a bit of roast and a touch of smoke with some underlying fruitiness. Nice smelling scottish ale (btw if the bottle says its a scottish ale I have to question why its considered a ESB). Very similar to the Belhaven Scottish ale but not as dark and there is more fruit. The strong scottish malt flavor is there and definitely in the aftertaste but its not as bitter as the Scottish Ale either. Very good session scottish ale. Like this alot. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2008 This beer pours a medium amber with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet and almost fruity. The flavors are the same. Very unique for an esb. I like this one. Not that bad but not really the right flavor for an esb. Cheers! roder60 (1030), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2008 Poured a clear dark brown with bubbly white head. Very interesting mix of peat and caramel with a tad bit of earthy smooth hops at the end. From my experiences, a different take than most bitters. Very very good. yespr (12406), Copenhagen O, Denmark
