The strong malt flavor was there and it was hoppier than anything I would expect from Scotland. It was balanced though . It had a big mouthfeel and left a bitter aftertaste. Sweet beer with a lot of malty flavors shining through. I taste some honey and caramel. Not a real complex flavor, and little hops, but it’s a nice flavor and left a good taste in my mouth. cheapdark (2044), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Has a stronger sweet volatile candy cane resin aroma. Lighter than root beer on the orangish side. Perhaps even the appearance of brown cream soda. Taste impact is strong, malty and alky. without a head. Certainly the taste is strong ale-ish. This is odd because the alky content on this is 4.6%. I swear, it comes on more like a 7%!! I wonder if Tiger drinks this when he is playing at St. Andrews? Finish is strong dirty and creek like. I imagine criks around St. Andrews golf course with crayfish in them along with a few shiners. Alky hangs for a while on the back and sides of yer throat. Finish can be somewhat wine like. emotv (331), Izmir, Turkey

Malty aroma with suggestions of toffee and toasted(?) malt. Flavour is good and quite well balanced. Caramel, apple pie, and toast, with a nice hoppy/bitter finish. Properly carbonated for a bitter. Good. stouby (1955), Holbaek, Denmark

Vinous fruits & caramel, well hopped, full bodied but lacking slightly in depth of flavour. Not a huge fan but fine and drinkable. There are much better scottish ales.
