Subdued, slightly sour apple/light fruit aroma doesn’t give much hope, but there are some nice flavours here. Good malt base, ovaltine, hazelnut, some thick milk chocolate, and a good dose of UK hops lends to a sessionable amber ale. Good effort. Hermod (294), Vantaa, Finland

Appearance: Clear amber with a massive, creamy, off-white head. Excellent head retention. Excellent lacing.
Aroma: Light nose with notes of peat and earth and a slight off metallic smell.
Flavor: Smooth, herbal hop bitterness, a little dough, a touch of caramel, and a good bit of malt sweetness.
Palate: Smooth carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a short, slightly bitter finish.
Overall: Malty with a good body to it. Not a bad ESB. mkel07 (526), Brisbane, Australia
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 9, 2009 355ml bottle. Copper in colour qith a nice white ehad, looks a bit murky in the glass. Aroma of sea salt mixed with muscat grapes. Strong bitter flavour with a well rounded malty finish. Not a hole in one but not too bad. Spab (294), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 9, 2009 500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a slightly cloudy copper with small vaguely off-white head. Light sweet malty aroma. Flavour is much more pronounced, primarily caramel malt but with a bit of fruitiness. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel and lightly bitter finish. Pleasant. sound67 (213), Offenbach, Germany
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 7, 2009 355ml bottle, brown. Golden, clear amber colour, small off-white head. Modest aroma of stewed fruit, raisins and cake. Low carbonation; thick, creamy mouth feel. Earthy, malty initial taste, followed by some fruit and caramel. Dry hoppy finish and lingering coffee-ish aftertaste. Complex premium/esb, a little more grainy than their "Robert Burns" ale, and less chocolaty. Closer to the "Scottish Ale". Likeable, straight-arrow dark ale. Should be sessionable. Nisse666 (438), Göteborg, Sweden
