This brew has alot of scot in the nose, but the mouth is disapointing. It´s weak in turms of tar-, dirt- and heattastes and therefor the bitternes becomes too dominant. This brewhouse makes ´em so mush better. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA

First flavor notes that come out are caramel sweetness, tobacco leaf, tea, and hops. The finish has an awful taste that reminds me of the smell of an ashtray. The finish IS NOT pleasant. If they could get rid of that awful smokey/ash tray taste, this would be very good. But as is, it needs work. cstuartj (326), Washington, USA

Kind of neat that it comes from the home of the game of golf, but besides that it’s not really all that special. KAggie97 (2479), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA

(I especially like this one during the British Open.) Very drinkable and refreshing. MartinKubert (862), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jun 13, 2004 Dark, coppery hue, thin head. Aroma: slightly metallic, coppery, some soft spices, a trifle sweet and buttery. Reminds me of Irish Red ales. Medium body. Not much fun for me here, as it lacks a lot of what I like: hops, flavor, body, bite, texture, aroma...that stuff.
Actually, I may have gotten an old 6-pack, since this was hidden away on a dusty shelf in a wine shop that does very little to sell their beer. Maybe a fresher bottle would change my opionion.

came in the 500ml old style brown bottle..with a pic of th "Old Course" with the famous stone brig.
Appearance is pretty nice..not as dark brown as the Scottish ale..more a burnt amber..good sized off white head..again excellent lace.
ZThe aroma though is rather subdued I pick very little up..some malts slight hint of peat but nowere as nice as the Scottish Ale.
The taste however is much better than the aroma, nice strong ,smooth malts to start then a touch of bitterness..followed by a rather surprising smoky aftertaste..quite complex.
Nice on the tongue, smooth and relaxed.
very drinkable..nice beer.
