(Bottled) Clear, dark reddish amber with a medium, foamy and lacy head. Some dark-fruity yeastiness in the aroma, with smooth toffee maltiness, salty-smoky hints, and hints of metal when cooler. Roasted-malty, dark-fruity, slightly smoked, neutral and salty flavor with an ashy-fruity finish. Medium-bodied with medium, soft carbonation. Very pleasant and enjoyable brew, especially for the ABV. I loved the smoky maltiness. (Bottled, rated 2/17/2004, was 6-4-6-3-12=3.1) Dark amber color, medium, lacy head. Slightly caramel-malty aroma. Old leather and earth in the malty flavor. Slight hoppiness in the finish. Medium-bodied, quite nice ale - nothing very special, though.

Very fruity nose. Light brown color with medium carbonation. Very fruity flavor that I wasn't expecting. Not too impressed.

Brown with glints of ruby. Rich and malty with a slight fruitiness. Sweet with some smokiness too. Very smooth and pleasant. Good Scottish Ale!

[bottle] Has a nice amber color with moderate carbonation and a good head that dissipates quickly. Malty aroma with a fruity undertone. Strong flavor initially with a strong earthy taste and lots of malt underneath.

Very smokey smell, quickly dissapating head. Somewhat tart flavor to it. Nothing special at all.

Yellow/golden color, white head. Has a sour aroma, but also with some apple. Flavor is sourish, but also sweet and fruity. Ends with a discreet finish.

This is, by far, my favorite scottish ale. The ale is extremely well-crafted in the typical Scottish tradition. I first tried it 10 years ago, and had a great deal finding it again until recently, but happily, it is now more readily available in the U.S.
