Some dark-fruity yeastiness in the aroma, with smooth toffee maltiness, salty-smoky hints, and hints of metal when cooler. Roasted-malty, dark-fruity, slightly smoked, neutral and salty flavor with an ashy-fruity finish. Medium-bodied with medium, soft carbonation. Very pleasant and enjoyable brew, especially for the ABV. I loved the smoky maltiness.
(Bottled, rated 2/17/2004, was 6-4-6-3-12=3.1) Dark amber color, medium, lacy head. Slightly caramel-malty aroma. Old leather and earth in the malty flavor. Slight hoppiness in the finish. Medium-bodied, quite nice ale - nothing very special, though. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA

Flavor is sourish, but also sweet and fruity. Ends with a discreet finish. gumshoe106 (4), morehead, Kentucky, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 18, 2004 This is, by far, my favorite scottish ale. The ale is extremely well-crafted in the typical Scottish tradition. I first tried it 10 years ago, and had a great deal finding it again until recently, but happily, it is now more readily available in the U.S.
