Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pastuerised.
A refreshing example of an India Pale Ale from the master brewers at Belhaven. The blend of Cascade and Challenger hops combine to produce an abundance of fresh hop aroma that preludes a bitter-dry taste explosion. Crafted from nearly three centuries of brewing heritage at Scotland’s oldest independent brewery, this ale from Belhaven will have your taste buds tingling.
6.1% USA export version. The Europe version is 5.3%.

Smooth, creamy, wonderful. This beer had it all. Poured a medium golden with a thick creamy white head. Nitro carbonation created the creaminess. Aroma of hops, carmel, and malt. Tastes was medium hop with very noticeable carmel after taste. Went down so smooth. Really delicious beer. Would definitely buy again.

Pours a clear gold with a massive head with poor retention. Aroma is decidedly corny, fried sesame chicken. Taste is definitely corny, some good peppery hops, nice malting but the base malt is somewhat pilsener-esque - call me crazy. Slightly stale hops and a slightly artificial honey-malt sweetness drive the aftertaste. Body is thin but has good carbonation. Lacks character, too polished & macrolicious. Yawnmower beer. Thanks to robinvboyer for the trade!

pint bottle pours a nice straw color with a thick dense white head. Aroma of mild hops and some sweet malt. Taste is mostly of malt and a slight hop bitterness at first, then the hoppiness really starts to show up in the finish. Nothing overwhelming but a nice balanced beer. One of the better classic IPAs I have had.

Bottled. pours out in a clear pale brown colour with a small disappearing white foam. Caramel, iron, metal and mild citrousy fruits in the clean aroma. Clean caramely flavour with touches of iron, ash and citric fruit. Medium to light-bodied. Metal, caramel and orange-peels in the finish.

500 ml. bottle from L.C.B.O. in Ottawa. The color is dark golden with a nice beige head. It has a strong aroma of hops with a sweet toffee smell and taste. It has just the right amount of bitterness to end off.

bottle. clear golden body into small white foamy head (mostly dissapating). great lacing. aromas of hops (pine mostly) and strong caramel hops. a bit more caramel and less hops than most IPAs that I have had as of late. flavor is moderately bitter and sweet. finish duration is long. overall pretty good IPA.

500 ml bottle courtesy jerc, best before Feb09. My bottle still indicates 6.1% abv. Pale golden amber colour with a frothy and rocky head that actually forms some funky dimples. Grassy, woody, piney, lightly metallic, and earthy hop aroma with some light caramel notes. Flavour starts sweet and toffeeish with some distinctive Belhaven house character then finishes with a moderate grapefruit and piney bitterness. Medium bodied, juicy but prickly mouthfeel. This seems like a well hopped version of their Best/70 Shilling – and it works much better.

dark gold pour with a bit of bubbles from carbonation and a thin white head. malty scent with some hop notes but not much at all. it’s ok on the palate but there’s no real hop taste until the aftertaste and even then it’s real subtle.
