Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pastuerised.
A refreshing example of an India Pale Ale from the master brewers at Belhaven. The blend of Cascade and Challenger hops combine to produce an abundance of fresh hop aroma that preludes a bitter-dry taste explosion. Crafted from nearly three centuries of brewing heritage at Scotland’s oldest independent brewery, this ale from Belhaven will have your taste buds tingling.

This is not a favorite nor will it ever be. Strong butterscotch candy aroma, witha bit of grassy hops, almost on the herbal side. Flavor is extremely bitter, with some biscuity maltiness

12oz bottle. Copper pour with a creamy off-white head. Muted grapefruit and floral hop aroma. Citrus and caramel malt taste. More of a malt backbone and less pop than the American ipa’s that I’m born and bred on.

50 cl bottle. Clear, pale amber golden with a white head. Lightly citrusy aroma. Fairly light-bodied. Some malt but overwhelmingly dominated by fairly dry and citric hops that leave a solid dose of bitterness. Over all a tasty understated IPA. A nice change from the hoppiness of the IPAs from the west coast.

I poured this brew from a pint+ bottle, had a caramel aroma with hints of biscuit, poured golden clear color with a minimal head, tasted a medium bitterness, lightly sour and a dry bitter finish; definetly a smooth beer that I could drink all night long; I had this one while enjoying some pasta with shrimp and parmesan and was excellent complement to the meal

Pours a medium golden, slight haze to the bottle. Little head retention. Hoppy with a slight hint of grass and malt on the nose. Starts mildly bitter then ends with a quick rush of malt and a slight lingering bitterness at the end. Medium mouthfeel with a medium-high carbonation.

Draft at Toad in the Hole. Foggy gold with small, soapy head. Signature Scottish (Golden Promise?) honeylike malt on the nose, plus sweet floral, mint and geranium. Flavor sustains the motif of Scottishness again with the reminiscence of Golden Promise (but the beer, not the cultivar of barley this time). ISTR the bottled product being sharper and hoppier, but both are lovely.

On tap at the Austin Flying Saucer on October 24, 2009. A clear, yet cloudy pale orange color, perfumy citrus aroma, sweet on the tongue. Pine (or some other woody green) undertones. Its body is of light hops and a caramel flavor with the finish of sour fruit. I love it!
