I do remember it being in typical Bells fashion, bitter finish(not bad however) after the chocolate/licorice. gdh8888 (5), Lansing, Michigan, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 24, 2007 Disappointed, mainly due to the HIGH price for this grog. It was very, very good, but not the sublime experience I had expected. Definitely shows that Bell’s is not mailing it in, but striving to produce something out of the ordinary. ryan (1776), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Brown body with nearly no head. The aroma is roast, light oxidation, molasses, light cola and chocolate. Flavor is dry and lightly bitter with bakers chocolate, light berry, toffee and sherry. Medium body is very soft with very light carbonation. Has certainly held up very well and was quite enjoyable. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA

Color is coppery brown with no head. A pleasure to just drink, even if it was on the light side. dra19 (89), holland, Michigan, USA

Pours rust with no head. Taste a little chocolate. Held up decently considering. Reminds me of good bourbon. kp (8396), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

dry chocolate aroma and flavor, only a hint of roastedness, light bitter finish, touch of caramel sweetness shows after a while, some oxidation is present but not near what you’d expect after all of these years,

Bottle: The aroma is a nice carbonation of chocolate, caramel, faint fruit, and a hint of alcohol. The flavor starts with a quick dose of chocolate. The finish quickly turns to bittersweet chocolate with some oxidation and piney notes. Wish I could have tried this fresh for comparisons sake. BBB63 (4232), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2007 Thanks Brad for sending the bottle with Ryan for our little tasting, you are forgiven for not showing up now: Murky brown with floaties, some small fizzy bubbles and a light oily film. Man this smells like an old stout with oxidized hops, tobacco, dusty yeast, charcoal black patient malt, chocolate and hint of over-ripened plums. I LOVE IT, no really I DO!
The taste is still very roasty and a bit papery. Notes of anise and pomegranate, tobacco and leather, bittersweet bakers chocolate leads to a stunning alcoholic finish. The mouth feel is extremely dry and warming. WOW, a lovely expression of a well aged but still vibrant stout. My rating does not do this beer justice.
