Commercial Description:
A commemorative brew celebrating Kalamazoo Brewing Company's 4000th batch. Considered to be a "double-mild" in style, Batch 4000 uses Sterling hops from a small farm in the Willamette Valley, and debuts an exclusive barley-malt, by Breiss Malting. It shows off some characteristics from the traditional English Mild, while doubling up the flavor profile and alcohol content. Brewed in February of 2000, this is beer is a one-time only brew.

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering. Thanks to tytoanderson and hellomynameis for each sharing a bottle. Very sweet nose with hints of ripe fruit and caramel and toffee. Decent carbonation to accent the very nice ripe fruit and caramel with a hint of milk chocolate. This held up much better than I thought.

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 12, 2008. Super thanks to Tytoanderso and Hellomynameis for each bringing a bottle of this rare gem. Dark orange color with no head. Definitely has an oxidized aroma with good caramel and a bit of hops still left. Strong, sweet malt with caramel and some chocolate. Really quite good and I’m amazed it’s still this good. Thanks again!

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Murky, glowing amber resin. Beautiful color. Thin aroma of honey and old, soggy wood. Lightly oxidized sherry and pepper touch. Thinned malt and a bit of crass saltwater flavor; biscuity with a dying whisper of pine and grassy hop. Bitter rind of orange and papery candies. Soft and tired in the mouth, finishing with a slick, bland, sweet coating of weak whiskey and aired out citrus. Time has simplified this into oblivion from something that seems to have been quite straightforward from the start; completely worn out. Thanks for sharing, Tyler!

Sweet aroma with some oxidization apparent in the aroma. Light amber like colour with no head. Amazingly good for a beer so old. Lots of carbonation surprisingly. Very sweet with some chocolate and fruit. I wish there was more of this around!

Amber colored with a quickly dissipating head, no lacing. Caramel and fruity notes in the aroma, and I also seem to get some apple notes, also some slight oxidation. Some oxidation also perceived in the taste, but not in a bad way. A little bit of caramel and some nutty flavors also show up. Less than medium body with light carbonation. This has held up surprisingly well considering it’s almost 8 years old. Thanks to hey_kevin for the opportunity.

Dark orange appearance, and the scent reminded me of summer. Just the time of year really. Somewhat of a bite in the back of the tongue, and a little on the light side, again, probably for the age. Held up decently well though.

Pours a cloudy amber white some white head. Aroma of malts and hops. Flavor of some grapefruit, hops, and some whiskey notes. Well past its prime but a joy to have.
