Slightly disappointed. Aroma of raisins, bread dough, caramel, sweeter malt, nuts (cashews and almonds) and alcohol. Pours muddy brown/orange with minimal carbonation. Flavor is slightly alcoholic, nutty, vinous with a mild hoppiness. Chewy, almost oily on the tongue with barely any carbonation. Finishes with a hint of metallic dryness. I have another (thanks to sliffy) r that I will revisit soon.

12oz bottles acquired in trades with beerhandy & brewbandit. Poured a deeper reddish / brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, nuts, toffee, and some nuttiness. Tastes of dark fruits, caramel, chocoalte, woody, and roasted malts. Light alcohol in the finish. This one is aging nicely!

Thanks to hopdog for sharing. Pours a hazy deep brown with lots of red notes when held to the light with a smaller bubbly/creamy light tan head that left some lacing. Aroma was lots of dark fruits, caramel, leathery, vanilla, sweet malts, Flavor of dark fruits, vanilla, creamy sweet malts, leathery, earthy notes, cherries and chocolate. Well done Barleywine.

Pours a deep red with a nice long lasting tan head. Smells of cotton candy, raisins, and malt. Extremely smooth and quite thick, tasting of barley, caramel, chocolate, wood, and hops. Lightly bitter aftertaste with a noticable alcohol bite.

Poured from a 12 oz. Opaque and lovely shade of chestnut brown. Aroma of toffee cake, caramel and rum; lighter sweetness of angel food cake, pistachios, and almond creme frosting. Dense, incredibly layered, and unique in that dark-light dichotomy; pure, unadulterated decadence. Hints at alcohol and oxidation in the moments in between. Flavors suggests wet cardboard, port, cinnamon, and malbec. Quite woodsy and bitter with citrus rind, atop the warming thickness of brandy and deep, dark Cabernet grapes and plums. A real mulled sentiment effects a comforting holiday ambience. Alcohol gently presents itself in dirty table wine. Full palate, sweet, and reserved. On the upswing, if not at its peak already; fantastic. Thanks for sharing, Ken!

Bottle shared by DYCSoccer17. Milk chocolate brown orange, extremely sedimentaceous and muddy. Thick, lasting head. Rich, malty aroma, brown sugar, crackers, shortbread, light anise, pine needles. Initially sweet, very pruney and raisiny body, light smokiness, dark-roasted coffee. Quite hoppy in the finish, towards the aggressively dry side for a BW. Warming finish. Extraordinary malt depth in this one.

12 ounce bottle. thanks, chris! greeat aroma. floral, fruity, leathery, roasty, tobacco, light cardboardy, and vinous aroma. this is my ideal aroma for a barleywine. i wish it were a bit more aromatic. murky, muddy, somewhat ugly body with small, quickly-dissipating yellow-orange head. fair lacing. some sweet, chewy, cardboardy oxidized flavors present to start. becomes a bit tart and quite roasted with tobacco and leather notes. finishes with some still apparent grapefruity hops that are nice and mellow. long, warming finish. delightfully drinkable. my ideal barleywine...where can i get more???

12 oz bottle, can’t remember who sent this badboy. Pours a cloudy dark amber to light brown body, some hints of rust, with a small covering of creamy light brown head that faded to a whispy film. A nice super fine bubbled covering arises with a gentle swirl. The nose is big toffee and caramel maltiness with accents of smoke, light oxidation, some light alcohol, and a little figgy fruitiness. Still a good bit of hop bitterness up front in the flavor, but it’s overtaken quickly by the heavy toffee maltiness and rich fruitiness. The finish is has the oxidation noted in the nose, along with some moderate alcohol that you could really taste in addition to feeling it. Just a hint of soy and some burnt caramel linger on in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, but not sticky or cloying at all, rather on the creamy side. Nice soft pleasant carbonation. A warming sensation flows down to the belly after each sip. Overall, a pretty good beer, but given the chance I’d take TCOA over this anyday, especially with similar age on the TCOA.
