Poured a dark black with a large (4.5 finger) brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, some dark fruits, light coffee and pine. Tastes of roasted malts, coffee grounds, and dark fruits. Ends in a nice coffee bitterness. Light alcohol in the finish as well. eboats (901), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Aroma is very sweet, some chocolate, red licorice, and some bread. Leaves a sticky mouthfeel. Very thick with chocolate and red licorice in the flavor. Brown sugar and huge caramel taste in this one. Soft, velvety, oily, just a crazy mouthfeel. No hops, just sweet and desert like all the way through. Brigadier (1260), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

Nice consistancy - not too thick but not watery either. Has a chocolately, coffee taste that lingers in the mouth for a long time before fading. willblake (2191), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Black and thick pour, molasses, but with a thick and lasting brown head. Nice looking stuff, but it’s hard to find an impy stout that isn’t. Aroma, besides reminding me of fudge batter, has a pitch bite and some undertones of caramelized citrus fruits. Rummy. Rich, soft, decadent palate. Flavor adds a deeper choco-roast pseudo-complexity with interminglings of biting hops, especially towards the finish; seems to lose focus from what had begun on a very high note. Lots of surprises with this beer as I didn’t know what it was before it was poured, and I had no idea it was so highly rated. BrockLanders (751), Panama City, Florida, USA

Very dark black, thick looking, pour. Large brown head foams up then falls back. Nose is all over the place....roasty coffee choco malts yet big bitter hop surge makes itself known. I like. Taste is a moment of sweet followed by a big bitter roasty slam....tasty, chocolatety, extremely burnt, alcohol, some hops attempting to throw some balance into this big beer. Very full almost cream-like mouthfeel, with a big big hop bitterness in the end. I’m glad I got this and look forward to sampling more as it matures. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2005 Pours pitch black with huge brwon head that fades rather quickly. Nice oily lacing. Lots of piney hop up front with roasted grain background. Hints of chocolate and dark fruits. Roasted grain and chocolate dominate the initial flavor, then turns to all piney hops. Long lingering aftertaste of bitter roasted grain. Can’t wait til these get a couple years on them SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

A large creamy head tops off this black bodied stout.
Strong coffee aroma with maybe a hint of smoke.
Moderately sweet with loads of roast barley bitterness that carry all the way into the long finish. Wonderful creaminess that coats the tongue. Improves as it warms and one that will most likely improve with age as well, if you are lucky enough to have some to cellar.
