Alot of things going on in this one for a brown ale. Very sweat, which I liked. This beer was great on cool late summer day. I’ll buy another 6 in the fall. Nate (2556), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice grainy oatmeal mash taste, nutty. Light hoppyness. Sweet and clean aroma for a brown, with some nice caramel. Hazy medium brown with thin lacing head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Starts nutty with sweet malt. Caramel and chocolate, light molasses. Good tangy sour mash at finish. Light hoppy bitter finish. Dry nutty sweet after with a bit of smoke. Nice brown. smartbrewing (7), Amelia, Ohio, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Updated: Aug 15, 2007A rich, malty aroma that overpowers the hops, with a hazy appearance. Flavor is consistent from start to finish...with a real BAM effect at the end. In other words, this beer is as smooth throughout as advertised. More malt could be added for my taste. Overall, a very good Brown Ale as you’d expect from Bell’s Brewery porterhouse (1160), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 19, 2007 (Bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>shigadeyo, thanks Craig!) Nice beer but seems a little weak flavor-wise...Pours slightly hazy amberish brown with three fingers of rocky biscuit head. Nice malty aroma of brown sugar and vanilla. Mouthfeel medium full. Some patchy lacing. Flavor is on the sweet, lightly nutty side, some brown sugar maltiness. Light-medium bitterness all the way through and little extra hit in finish. Nice base of flavor but wish there was a little more of it. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Bottle: Nice chestnut brown color with medium size creamy white head. Great lacing. Aroma of hops, malt, and a little earthiness. Taste is sweet with maltiness and caramel , yet has enough hops to maintain some bite. A little woody and nutty as well. One of the better browns that I can remember to date. Thanks Eithcubes for the trade bonus. Schultsc (483), Henderson, Nevada, USA

Light aroma of caramel and grains with subtle noble hops and a touch of fruitiness which is also duplicated in the flavor along with some nuttiness and roastiness. Mouthfeel is full but nimble and finishes clean and light. WeeHeavySD (3016), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

Always nice to have a new beer for me from the geniuses at Bells. Pours dark reddish brown with a generous 3 finger tan head. The nose is very nice, sweet and malty. Tasty with nutty maltiness. This is a creamy drinkable beer with a lot of character, a bit of coffee comes through as well as a hint of caramel. This is a damn good example of how Bell’s can turn the average brown into something pretty damn tasty. mtchyg (10), East Lansing, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 23, 2007 This is a smooth brown ale. I’ve had stronger but I’m not so sure Bells wasn’t trying to make this a more marketable/drinkable brown ale. The aroma hints are subtle but what is there is nice. Good beer!
