Something vaguely sweet-caramel, toffee, bit of hosp, dry cacaopowder; sweet and vaguely woody. Sweet-ish, green leaves, bit of greenmalt, arachide with a retronasal bitterness that clashes with the sweet initial flavour, instead of blending. Chocolate flavours, certainly warming up. Medium bodied, at least, quite slick, bit too much mouthburning to be called smooth. It’s not really bad, but its lack of balance annoys me no end. I wonder if Mr. Bell wanted to explore the limits of archaic styles? dkoonce (889), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA

Wow. This beer has a sweet roasted malt flavor, with some nuttiness and slight hop bitterness. Truth in advertising...this is the best tasting brown ale I’ve had to date. biznizness (951), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 26, 2007 Bottle, pours a slightly murky dark caramel color with a finger thick tan head; good lacing. Sweet aroma of caramel and toffee malts. Somewhat carbonated taste with light palate, slightly sweet and malty throughout. A very nicely done brown with a good balance and just enough sweetness to make for a refreshing beer without being overdone; recommended. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA
