Pour produced a hazy, copper-hued body topped by a generous head of tan foam, rocky in texture, leaving moderate lacing. Aroma is predominately malty and sweet. Full mouthfeel with a sweet, roasted palate, with a bit if crisp carbonation on the tongue. The roast flavor linger quite a bit afterwards, providing a dry smoky finish. Overall, this is a good ale for those that like their beer on the malt side. It could have pulled back a bit on the aftertaste, but it is still a good beer. blutt59 (2110), Dallas, Texas, USA

Not much aroma, but a good bit of malt and more hops to it than a lot of browns. Kind of fizzy, though. hogan873 (327), Joliet, Illinois, USA

Overall sweet aroma with notes of caramel, brown sugar, and bakers chocolate. There is also a hint of grassy hops. Smooth, creamy palate with some nice carbonation biting at the end. Sweet flavor up front. Brown sugar, caramel, and bitter chocolate. Finishes dry with citrus and muted pine. A pretty good brown ale. shawnm213 (935), South Bend, Indiana, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Batch 8759. Pours a clear, dark, reddish-brown hue with a small, lasting, foamy blanket of cream colored foam. Jagged splotches of foamy lace coat the glass well. The nose shows brown sugar, caramel, and figgy dark fruit in the malt base, along with hints of hazelnut and vanilla maple. Flavors show more of the same, nice and malty with big caramel and brown sugar notes, with a little bit of cocoa roast and bready yeast. Hazelnut and perhaps some almond come through, along with mild, earthen hop notes. Medium bodied and smooth, the palate is perhaps just a bit on the syrupy side. Overall, a very fine brown ale.
