Nice owl on the label - for some reason I find owls to be totally appropriate for promoting brown ale. Full aroma of herbs, malt, yeast, and sweat (unfortunately). A malty brew with sweet undertones and a touch of hazelnut. There is a lightly astringent hop finish that is very nice on the palate. This is a tasty and complex ale. I’m not sure it is the best, but it is definitely up there. My favorite BA so far is Samuel Smith, which to my disappointment is only ranked 43 for the style as of this writing. But this here Best Brown is another top notch release from Bell’s.

Pours a hazy ruby hued brown with a medium to large creamy white head that deflates rather quixckly. Nice toasty nutty malt with a vinous fruit note with a bit of caramel. Medium bodied, quite smooth, nice and malty and a bit nutty. Finishes up with a smooth bitterness. A touch on the sweet side, but really tasty. HeadieNugget (24), Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a clear brown color body, with a big tan foamy head, very lasting. Malty nutty aroma, some toasted notes and earthiness, mustiness. Some sharpness too. Somewhat creamy, nutty taste. Very brown ale like, some earthiness and slight sweetness. Some sharpness from the hops, and finishes pretty smooth. Wow, a pretty good beer, nearly session-like. lithy (1750), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 11, 2009 This is a very good brown ale - up there with Broolyn Brown ale. Pours deep brown, rich but not overpowering aromas spot-on for the style. Taste is a bit dry, deep maltiness that only comes out with time with just enough bitterness. Exemplary. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 10, 2009 This ale poured a ddark orange colour with a big frothy, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of candy, caramel, sweet malts and a little ripe fruit. First taste was very smooth and medium bodied with flavours of caramel, malt and a very small hopp flavour. Finish is slightly bitter with hopp and caramel flavours lingering. BiddleBrau (332), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Copper color with nice white head which left some lacing. Rich malty and toasty nose. Clean malty flavor with some bitterness to finish with. Clean finish. American in style with more hop presence. Body is middle-of-the-road but to style.
