fiver29 (276), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Jun 6, 2008 On tap pours black with little aroma to it. Has a thin mouthfeel. Taste is not very impressive and has just a typical taste for this style. Overall not an impressive beer.
Silphium (2006), Lansing, Michigan, USA May 29, 2008 On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Deep, opaque chocolate-brown body, medium tight beige head. Nose of chocolate and spicy grain. Rather thin at first sip, with rye huskiness, grainy with brown ale characteristics, including chocolate and nutty notes. Bitter rye finish. As the beer warmed, coffee notes became prominent. A malt-dominated beer, unlike the hoppier Founders Black Rye. Allow this beer to warm a bit from serving temperature for full enjoyment.
