mgumby10 (1650), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2008 Courtesy JMFG. Pours black, with a small light brown head. Smells of thick, rich vanilla, dark roasty malts, light cherry notes, and bourbon. The flavor is remarkably balanced. The bourbon isnt so in your face, and the cherries seem to hold their own and dont get drowned out completely. The bourbon definitely helps this brew out considering I think the Cherry Stout is decent not great. This combo seemed to work. I enjoyed the blend in flavors.
General_Gao (2575), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle. Pretty sure pepsican shared this one with us. Thanks. Poured a murky opaque dark brown color. The head was a funky orange-ish brown color. Smelled of buttered toast, light butterscotch, subdued dark cherry, and a splash of booze. Kind of had a buttered popcorn aroma. Medium bodied and boozy with a light tart note. Vanilla, bourbon, buttered popcorn, and black cherry flavors mingled well together. Papsoe (10367), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 6, 2008 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of fiver29. Pours completely opaque black with a light brown head. Intriguing and intense bourbon aroma with some alcohol shining through. Medium body, the roasted malt accents are surprisingly subdued but the beer is dominated by a distinct sourness. The cherry notes turn up late but are strong and distinct and also add almond and coconut accents. No real bitterness but an acidic finish. Unique. 051008 MiP (6026), Flensburg, Germany Oct 4, 2008 Bottle. Very nice and distinct vanilla aroma. Fat cream and vanilla, hint of whiskey, some cherry. Black colour. Small stable brown head. Citric flavour, probably from the cherry. Plenty of vanilla and oak flavours. The cherry flavour starts in the sourness and ends with some citric fruitiness. RCL (1075), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Oct 3, 2008 Black pour with a light brown head. Smells like a new world pinot noir collided with a stout with a splash of bourbon in the mix. Lots of cherries evident. Tastes of sour cherries on the entry, stout on the mid-palate, then some more cherry tartness and smooth wood tannins on the finish with just a hint of bourbon. The palate could be a bit thicker and richer ( I wrestled with giving it a 3 or a 4) but, all in all, a really nice, complex beer. derekbang (125), Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2008 I really wanted to like this, particularly since it was a gift from a friend. Aroma and flavor was almost of a chemical nature - like glue. I love bourbon, cherries, and beer, but this mix just didn’t work.
