Bottles thanks to Turdferguson and Monger: Pours almost black with a small brown bubbly head. Aroma if very light chocolate and just a whiff of sweet cherry. Flavor is malty, roasty, chocolatey, milk cream with a sweet cherry skin flavor and a little bit of cherry tartness. Body is thick and shows off the alcohol in this brew.Flavor is cloying and gets a little cough syrupy unfortunately or this would be a really high rating from me otherwise.

Bottle. Pours black with a thin brown head that had a bit of a red hue. A sweet malty stout with notes of sweet milk, caramel and some sweet biscuits. Not much cherry on the nose, perhaps a slight tart note. Flavor begins with sweet malts, but finishes with a nice tart cherry flavor.

Location: Cask at Capital Ale House, 12/26/09

Aroma: It has a nose of cherries (obviously), along with some chocolate, coffee
Appearance: Out of the cask, this one came a brown color with a slight red hue
Flavor: Taste has some slightly sweet maltiness up-front, but it has a big sour finish
Palate: The body is medium with a nice, dry finish
Overall Impression: Overall, I enjoyed this beer quite a bit. It worked really well from the cask, and the nose is quite open and powerful in this serving method. Very nice.

12 oz bottle from the Four Firkins. Deep dark brown pour, very thin head that dissipates and remains as a ring around the glass. Aroma is faint but is a very nice cherry smell. Flavor is tangy cherry with a hint of chocolate. Finish is sweet chocolate with a hint of cherry. Awesome beer if you like cherry. I’ve also had a cask conditioned version of this that was amazing, try it if you ever get a chance.

Bottled. Black with thin disappearing tan head. Pretty carbonated for stout. Aroma is powerful. sour cherries, toasty/roasty malt, very light coffee, and licorice. Flavor is roasty with licorice and tart cherries. Weird but I Dig!

Bottle courtesy of daknole, which I’ve been sitting on for a while. This definitely has some age on it. Batch number 8870, so bottled a little over a year ago. Some big sediment on the cap, and a good bit on the bottom of the bottle. The cap was interesting given that this has been stored upright since I got it, probably about 6 months ago or more. Pours a deep dark black with a thin deep tan head. A bit still. The nose is full of vanilla, roast, a light touch of chocolate and cherry. Sweet cherry, light tartness, nice roast. With the sediment I can’t be sure how this has held up, so I don’t know if the tart near sourness is intentional, but it’s certainly tasty. The finish is smooth with vanilla, bakers chocolate, some tannic roast bitterness. Very good stuff.

12 oz. bottle - Batch 8870, so just over a year old; thanks to grownfool for the trade; dark brown pour with faint tan head forming along the edges; toasty malts, mild roast and faint cherry aromas; definitely some tartness with light body and fizzy mouth feel; the stout side is either quite light or very faded over time; mild cherry and almost sharp tartness dominates the flavor; not enough stout here for my liking and maybe better when fresh to balance out the tartness

A: Very dark black with hints of blood red shimmering thru as you swirl the glass. There is little to no head right from the pour. If you swirl the glass you can awake some tiny bubbles though, which will form a head just big enough to cover the top of the brew. S: Very nice. Deep dark fresh ground coffee aroma with a definite smell of ripe cherries. There is a hint of chocolate as well that helps to gives it a unique chocolate covered cherry type aroma. T: Very unique. Had I not seen any reviews before drinking this one I would have been very surprised. The cherry taste is of bitter cherries. Not what I expected but very nice nonetheless. As soon as it hits the tongue you taste tart cherries. This gives way to a nice chocolaty malt base which finishes with the taste of fresh coffee. M: Medium to thin in body actually. I would like it to be a little thicker.

12-oz bottle. Thin brown head the disappeared rapidly. No lacing. Black, black, black. Not much aroma either. Some coffee, dark chocolate and cherry. Actually smells a lot like a chocolate covered cherry. Taste is sour and only slightly bitter. Texture is medium with mild carbonation. Long finish with a touch of tinniness on the end. A very interesting brew. I would try this again with food but not by itself. Taste buds need recovery time between sips to recover from sourness.
