Raisiny malt flavor with some maple syrup. Sweet with a caramel malt finish. Very flavorful and alcohol is well hidden. Smooth and thick and very easy to drink. Good beer! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Poured a nice reddish brown color with an off white head. Aroma is really malty and that about it, pretty basic. Flavor is also really malty, a tiny bit of alcohol shining through with hardly any sign of hops. Not the greatest beer, but pretty good for the style. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2008 Updated: Aug 30, 2008The flavor profile of this beer is absolutely fantastic. As it warms it gets even better. But the nose is hardly noticeable, except for some matliness. But, besides that, I’d definitely drink this one over and over again. awiseman01 (378), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Served in tulip glass, and was the tastiest looking beer imaginable. Smells of malts and cherries. Tastes of Cherries, berries, light oak/wood, mild hops. Abundantly full. Many flavors roaming in this treat. A true pleasure to drink. Maybe I just love taps, but this was worth the visit. Siince it’s a limited release I may be back soon. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2008 Batch 8251. The body is a clear, dark reddish-amber color with a large but fleeting, tan colored head. Hardly any lacing is noticeable. The aroma is hoppier than most doppelbock’s I’ve encountered, with some interesting citrus and pine bitterness joining a malty base of caramel, toffee, malted chocolate, and old, oaky wood. Flavors continue this theme, velvety caramel and toffee lending sweetness as bitter, earthy spices and piney-citrus hops do the opposite. The body is medium-full and moderately carbonated, sweet but not cloying. The alcohol shows a good deal on the finish. Overall, this is a pretty unique take on the style. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t blow me away. Solid brew. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA
