Aroma is sweet and complex. I smell fruity bubblegum in it for some reason. Flavor is a chocolate covered raisin malty blend. There are some hops in this one, but as with this style they aren’t the main attraction. A brown sugar/molasses finish which is probably as long as any finish I’ve had with a beer. Good stuff... another reason to be upset that Bells doesn’t distribute to Tennessee. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA

Pours a reddish brown color with minimal head. Like this one more than the Sam Adams for sure! Collint (458), Sylva, North Carolina, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a very deep ruby amber almsot borwn with a thin lasting head and some spoitty lace. Aroma thcikly sweet with caramel toasted and chocolate malts and tons of fruity oxidized esters- clearly and old bottle. Flavor is also papery some cardboard- tons of sherry, and fruitiness, caramell sweetness and some cherry skin astringency in the end- with even some tartness - perhaps a slight bacterial infection? Expect very sweet but it isn’t. Nice beer esp. in winter. Bockyhorsey (2551), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Sweet aroma hits the nose as most dopplebocks do. Red body with tan head. Good dose of sweet caramel malts for flavor. Swetness mellowed out when beer warmed up was too cold at first out of the fridge. Little too sweet for me but typical of the style. bfogt (2), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 26, 2008 I got a little mustiness, like a cellar, in the aroma from this bottle. Aside from that it had a cloying bit of fruitiness to be expected in a doppelbock. I was surprised to get some hop bitterness but it started in the background and stayed throughout. The two highlights were certainly the malt and the alcohol. They are hard to ignore. The fruitiness just didn’t come through to me in this taste. I really like the garnet to golden color as I tilt the glass in light. This sample is crystal clear. Mouthfeel is very full and coats the whole mouth with a flavor that is straight forward but persistent. The strong alcohol sense seems to balance between the bitterness offered by the hops and the dark malts. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
