Pours amber brown with a nice sized cream colored head. Aroma is caramel malt. Taste is malty as well, with caramel coming through and a little bit of roastiness. Not a bad double bock, but not the best I have had.

12 oz. bottle. Pours clear reddish-brown with a small off-white head and minimal lacing. Aroma is malty with lightly fruity (grape, cranberry) and toasty notes. Flavor is sweet (molasses) but nicely balanced and not underattenuated, and with smooth alcohol warmth. Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Very drinkable and very good.

Batch #8251. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a frothy, parchment colored head that reduces to a thin skin at the surface. On the nose are sweet and yeasty caramel and burnt sugar with a faint alcohol in the background. Medium-bodied and slick with assertive carbonation beneath, ending mildly dry and astringent. Sweet and malty with notes of burnt sugar, light caramel and a mildly dry, earthy hop bite that comes across a bit plastic-like. This is a decent brew, but it’s not one of my favorite beers from Bell’s; nor is it among my favorite doppelbocks.

’07 Bottle: Dark ruby in color with a minimal cream head. Sweet caramel malt, bread dough and some subtle dark fruit notes all come through nicely in the nose. This has a wonderful creaminess to it and is much fuller than what I remember. Sweet, dark malt flavor...again some fruity notes and the caramel come through. This is wonderful stuff. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again that Bells is the most solid, all-around brewery in the country. KNOW THAT!!

Bottled: Poured with a reddish amber tinge and a tight bubbly head. Very stark aroma, sweet and appley. In a big contrast, the flavor is initially pretty roasty. The advertised caramel is there, although I’m not sure about any molasses. I get more of a brown sugar thing. Good wintery brew. (#3332, 2/26/2008)

Dark red beer. Clear. Very strong caramel aroma. Toasty. Very sweet tasting as expected with toffee and caramel being the most prominent flavors. Good stuff.

Pours a hazy amber brown color with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, fruity, and some spicy hops. Flavor is caramel, toffee, fruity, roasty, spicy hops, and a slight alcohol finish.

12 oz bottle. Clear, reddish brown with a thin tan head. Well carbonated. Sweet malt and toffee nose, lightly spiced. Sweet caramel and toffee flavors, a bit of tobacco and a wisp of smoke.Just a touch of the alcohol pops up in the finish. Not bad.
