Very strong malty aroma with some caramel and grape juice tones. Very well balanced, smoky flavor with strong malty aftertaste. The finish has way too much sugar residue at the end. Pretty decent beer, I have not tried enough Doppelbocks yet. durhambeer (1225), Durham, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 15, 2008 Updated: Sep 7, 2008Deep copper clear pour. Small, quickly disappearing head. Sweet maltiness and aromas/tastes of caramel and vanilla. Wonder if this would be good oaked. The alcohol is well hidden, but it’s overall a little sweet for my taste, which takes away from the complexity. Enjoyed my first one more, but not loving my second one. Not bad, though.
Re-rated an almost two-year old bottle: this is much better aged. Sweet vanilla is toned down and more molasses malt comes through. Some wood notes. Worth saving a few. LinusStick (1851), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Unfortunately I have had enough Ayinger Celebrators that I base my ratings of doppelbocks on that. This is a good, not great, dopp. Aroma was weak. Could pick up caramel malt and iced tea scents. Pour was a nice deep amber with a thin white ring for a head with no lacing. Taste was a little thin. Caramel malt mostlly with a hint of smokiness and some toasted biscuit. Wierd sugary aftertaste that overpowers what you just swallowed. Definately one of Bell’s worst beers IMO. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 12, 2008 Pours medium dark brown with a clear body. Foam quickly dissipated. Aroma faint of malts, yeast and creamed vanilla. Flavour is of chocolate biscuits with a faint vanilla bread like character. Caramel seems to dominate through the taste, unfortunately it sorta gives the beer a typical bock flavour, no real outstanding character that says ’look and drink me". I mean its not bad, but not my fave style either, I was sorta expecting a bit more from Bells. raiderfost (158), virginia beach, Virginia, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 11, 2008 Clean, copper colored pour with very minimal light cream head. Aroma teases with light hints of caramel maltiness, nutty undertones and a note of vanilla. First sip: Hmmmm, surprising light and crisp flavors of caramel, bready malt, chocolate undertones and a dash of vanilla. Flavor intensifies with each sip, with that nice bready, dry finish. I likes! | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 11, 2008 This beer was a pleasant departure from the typical Bells offering. A nice, smooth, dangerously drinkable, breakfast beer with a very attractive reddish hue and creamy foam. With its caramel sweetness, Consecrator is a fdecent example of a dopplebock (maybe a little on the light side, though. Single infusion mash?). tig397 (64), dearborn heights, Michigan, USA
