| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Sept. 2006 - Poured caramel brown color with next to no head. Aroma was strong candied sugar. The flavor was more of the same. Really sweet candy apple with cherry, caramel and some vanilla. I enjoyed the beer, but this doesn’t stand up with the good dopplebocks out there. Just not "earthy" enough. HomeBrewHawk (282), De Soto, Kansas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 10, 2008 12oz brown bottle. Batch 8251. Served in a tall pilsner glass. Pour a clear copper with about a finger of fine bubbled head. Decent malt aroma with some toffee, also a hint of hops. Medium bodied with a solid malt base, some caramel. Some noble hop bitterness in the finish. Goes down pretty easy at 8% abv.
I’m a fan of Bell’s in general, but this is not one of their better offerings. Doesn’t even come close to the complexity and intensity of malt flavor found in German dopplebocks. cheapdark (2047), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 8/20 | Feb 8, 2008 Surprised to have not seen this before today. Darker but just as clear as yer average beer. Milk laced with alcohol aroma. Perhaps hints of malt and chocolate, possibly carob. Certainly a barn facination is there. Rather strong on the taste buds, healthy buzz material here. Lets ram another male drinker with my skull and goat horns, hopefully a ewe is watching. Big beefy flavors, certainly lets you know this is beer, on the stronger side. Finish is not bitter but alky malty lurks continuously thru the finish. Just like any other of bells stuff, this is on target for the style, perhaps a little overdone. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2008 Poured a fairly light and opaque copper color. Smells interesting. Taste is prune, caramel, nutty, slightly bitter with a bitter lager finish. I have had this before, this seemed a lot thinner than I remember. I always want to like this beer but I never really do. dkachur (2425), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 4, 2008 Updated: Oct 23, 2008Bottle. Pours copper colored with a small, foamy head. Aroma is kinda bland. Taste is more interesting, with toffee and plum and all kinds of stuff. Delicious. TheBeerGod (3171), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Bottle. Pretty copper pour. Small tan head fades quickly. Aroma is sweet malts, toasted caramel, brown sugar, rusty iron, ripe fruits and candy. Taste combines these, minus the rusty iron, with some soft nutty flavors, dark bread, and soft candyish fruits. Light alcohol comes through in spots as well. Body is medium to medium-full. There’s some creamy carbonation filling out this rather chewy beer. Ends with more caramel, sweet malts, candy, dark breads and hints of fruit. Yummy! nimbleprop (947), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Transparent copper body with a bone colored head that settled quickly. Smells of special malts, nuts, caramel, slightly metallic, slight candy aroma. Flavor is very similar, sugary malt, Belgian candy, slight citrus, sweet fruits (apples and pears). Texture is a little buttery with a touch of heat in the throat. Pretty good.
