This is EXACTLY what you would expect it to be, and pretty darn good at that. Alcohol notes are completely subdued. Trouble looms. Bonus invisible point for the goats on the label. Hints at evil, which is how I roll. adrian910ss (1434), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 26, 2007 Pours a slightly hazy rusty orange brown color with a small white head. Aroma of malts, caramel and candied dark sugar. Taste is malty with a strong caramel backbone and a bready finish. Nothing special. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2007 Bottle, Madison WI (beer shopping with Hezron.) Deep rusty brown pour with a cap of noisy off-white foam that quickly bubbles away. Deep dusky caramel aromas; old barns, rustic apples. Sticky, lip smacking caramel flavor. Something about the carbonation feels harsh and distracting for the flavor profile. A pleasant enough beer, but one that doesn’t quite get all it’s component flavors really working together. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 17, 2007 Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Bell’s dimpled mug. This beer poured deep amber color with a slight haze and a small foamy head that slowly faded away, leaving no lace. The aroma of this beer is nuts, sweet malts, caramel, and bread. The flavor consists of caramel, yeast, molasses, and a light spicy hop finish. It is lightly sweet and spicy, showing a good balance of flavor. The mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied. Little carbonation, with well hidden alcohol. A good doppelbock from Bell’s. biggenius29 (155), Hamilton, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 13, 2007 Bottle poured into a stem glass. Pours mahogony with a small off-white fizzy head that fully diminishes, leaving no lacing at all. The aroma is of caramel, and a slight alcohol aroma Takeing the first taste there is molasses, caramel and also a slight hint of smokyness. Behind all the malt there is a slight flowery hop flavor. Then in the end it finishes very clean and smooth. The body is medium to full with a oily texture and lively carbonation. MHED (112), lisle, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 10, 2007 bttle. served in pint glass. poured dark red hue with tight white head. aroma of candied fruit and malt. sweet heavy body and lucious mouthfeel of crystalized caramel and subtle balanced spiciness that barely reaches your tongue but balnces the full bodied dopplebock nicely. would highly reccomend this lager to all. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 9, 2007 Bottle. The pour actually looks a little flat. Very little head even with a vigorous pour. A clear deep garnet with a very thin head of tiny white bubbles. Aroma first hits me as dead fish. I don’t know where I am getting this from, but that’s what I smell. I also pick up some sweet caramel and a touch of smoke. Flavor doesn’t have any indication of the fish smell, but the sweetness and the smoke are present. The body is very light on carbonation but it is there. Very easy drinking for 8%. Tasty. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2007 Russet brown color with an initially thick and bubbly off-white head. Sweet, candy-like fruity aroma (raisins, dried dates) with a very rich malty background. Flavors were of rich, sweet bready malts, raisins, yeast, caramel, brown sugar, honey, dried dark fruits (raisins, dates, prunes, cherries). Soft and sugary palate with some nice bubbles of carbonation. A very well-balanced finish--a hint of alcohol, but not too much sticky sugariness. A really great Dopplebock, I wish these were easier for me to get.
