Aroma is rather yeasty, with some grape, nuts and caramel. Taste is similar, feels noticably thick, but not too much, and carbonation is mild. Finish becomes very nutty, kind of like a scotch ale might finish. Somewhat bitter but in a non-hoppy way. As it warms, it starts reminded even more of some English style barley wines or old ales. Pretty good. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA

RERATE: totally disagree with prior assement. huge malts, but totally balanced. in fact, balance entirely makes the beer, because it’s otherwise very, very, slightly one-dimensional. bready as well. bu11zeye (5510), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 15, 2006 12 oz. bottle , courtesy Ross. I had this right after a Doppelbock from Germany, Schmucker, so it was nice to compare them side by side. Thisone is a slightly hazy deep copper with a medium tan head that collapsed in a couple of minutes and left no lace. Malty nose of grain, biscuit, and some molasses, but with a faint yet distinct piney hop note. Medium body, very light carbonation, and a slight chewiness on the palate. Sweetness of caramel and molasses is quite prominent. There is a little bitterness detectable at the end, but not enough to fully balance the sweetness. Ends up a little too sweet for my tastes. black95tt (82), Doylestown, Ohio, USA
