Commercial Description:
Consecrator is a traditional doppelbock-style fermented with a Bohemian lager yeast. Reddish brown in color, with a mild hop profile, Consecrator is a well balanced, full bodied beer with hints of caramel and molasses in its smooth, malty finish. Brewed for a Fat Tuesday release.

It had almost no aroma. Kind of malty and alcoholic smell. Flavor was quite unspectacular. Kind of nutty and a little bit of alcohol. Quite disappointed with this.

A surprising, (disappointing), find: a Bell’s beer that is less than superb. Still not bad, just not up the standards of their best offerings. Perhaps comparing this one to Ayinger’s is unfair. Nobody touches the Celebrator in my book.

05.16.06 12oz bottle, batch 7209. Hazed reddish-teakwood color with just about zero head. Nice color but otherwise unattractive. Aroma is mild with some grapiness, dark bread dough, cooked apple, fresh maple, and somewhat herbal with a distant roasted sage note. Flavor falls short of keeping up with the aromas with mild fruitiness, much sweetness, caramel, and a touch of lagery sourness. Body is quite thin, despite its sweetness, and rather lifeless.

Very nice oblique mahogany- tinged black, thin sudsy off-white head which receded fast leaving no lace, only the thinnest of rings at the edge of the surface. Aromas of dark fruit, herbs, cola, molasses abd bread. Taste was smooth and balanced with neither a toasty malt dominance nor a bitter hop one, although a lottle of both were there. Not so much sweet as not bitter. Notes of fruit, molasses, malt, yeast, toffee and alcohol. Mouthfeel was fine but not exceptional, perhaps a tad thin but not unpleasantly so. Not overly carbonated but still refreshing.

Not a big fan of doppelbocks but enjoyed this one. Dark color and smell of some fruit and caramel. Tastes sweet and malty. Tastes like syrup. I can also taste some hops but not a lot. I like it.

Batch #6656, bottle from Kevin. Pours mahagony, copper with a medium frothy tan head that almost completely diminishes. Aroma is sweet caramel malt (meal, straw), maple, fruit (pear, apple) and yeast (bread). Medium bitterness and acidity, alcohol, creamy maple and caramel malt, finish is slightly hoppy. Medium bodied and warm, spicy-fizzy palate that ends dry.

Bottle. Poured a clear reddish brown with a very nice tanned head. Scents of caramal and sugar on the nose. Flavor reminded me of maple syrup, thick, viscous and sweet. Malty backdrop to the sweetness. Delicious throughout, my favorite doppelbock to date. Bottle courtesy of Styles.

Nice appearance and aromas; copper color, thin head, with a very thick mouthful and lengthy aftertaste. Nice caramel, burnt chocolate flavors.
