If my rating seems a bit high, it probably because I had this out of the tap at the brewery. Heavy malty flavor complimented by sweet caramel, molasses, and hops. Alcohol is present if you go looking for it. I detected a smokiness as well, great beer! jimvy (131), O’Fallon, Missouri, USA

Medium body. Flavor is full of maltiness, with a little bit of hop flavor in the finish. Sweet in the finish as well. Slowly warms. Overall, a very nice beer, though I prefer the complexity of darker versions. This is almost a bock. hair-old (137), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Doppelbocks are quickly becoming one of my favorites. Lively hops, smooth as hell malts, and thick bodied. Caramel, and molasses are the first things I noticed. Two thumbs up. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2006 From a 12oz. long neck brown bottle with a short blurb about the doppelbock and batch number on the back label, 7209, packaged on 03/02/06. Made a good appearance, poured a hazy amber with foamy tan head that settled into a thin foamy lacing, decent carbonation. Had a sweet malty nose of caramel and molasses with a light fruitiness and brief whiffs of alcohol. A sweet, smooth medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Sweet caramel malty with a light hop profile upfront, a syrupy molasses flavor, a hay-like yeastiness, a little banana breadiness and a sweet caramel malty finish with a lingering warming alcohol presence in the palate, very tasty.
I personally look forward to this seasonal from Bell’s, I enjoy it, find it tasty and very quaffable wheninhell (486), louisville, Kentucky, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2006 Pours a ruddy brown with a thin tanish head. The nose is extremely sweet with apple cider, with perhaps a hint of vinegar. The mouthfeel is about as smooth as a beer can get, creamy, viscous, and showing just the right amount of CO2. This is an extremely sweet beer, the caramel malts really linger on the tongue. The fruit is still there, but it’s not so obvious that it’s apple now, though there is a certain sourness. Something almost tannic lingers on the tongue, it actually seems to counterbalance the overbearing sweetness. The sweetness seems more becoming of a barelywine, but there just isn’t the body and the alcohol to back it up here.
