maple colored, small head. sweet aroma with a whiff of cough syrup (at 9% abv, it might be a touch medicinal). suprisingly, it was not sweet, but a bit winey in flavor. oily, full palate. i enjoyed this more than i would have thought.

Rich roasted malt dominates with a big alcohol presence (mainly a tongue-burn on the finish) Good winter warmer with a wine like texture.

This was a really nice doppelbock. From the bottle this pours a red/amber with a small white head and nice lacing. Very clean tasting with a rich malt profile up front and a slightly burnt note in the finish. Hints of molasses, sherry, and caramel in the body with a very balanced taste and smooth texture.

Pours hazy dark brown with a light brown head. Sweet and sticky malt and caramel aroma with hints of alcohol. Typical doppelbock flavor of malt, caramel and alcohol. Little thin. Definately not as good as the best German doppelbocks.

Delicious! This pours out a clear, light brown color with some reddish highlights and is capped by a slender white head. The aroma is sweet like the wort with caramel and toffee scents. It’s a very smooth, easily drinkable, the ABV being well hidden except for a slight alcohol burn on the tongue in the finish. It’s a good malty drink with caramel being the predominant flavor. There’s a fairly heavy dosage (for the style) of hops here, but they work mainly to keep the brew from getting overpoweringly sweet. I’m having some more.

Draft at brew pub. Reddish brown color with medium off-white head. Complex aroma of hops with sweet tone. Full flavor and body with malt, caramel and hops. Good long finish. Very refreshing and pleasing brew.

Bottled. Pours a nice ruby color. The expected malty smell with a note of hops I haven’t found in other Doppels. Taste is malty too, of course, with caramel, alcohol and a note of vanilla fudge. I thought it wasn’t overly sweet, due to hop presence. Finishes with a bit of yeast bite, stirred up as I grabbed the bottle.

Not bad but a little too sweet for my taste (and I tend to like them a little sweet).
