Apr 3, 2005 Pours a reddish copper color, with a thin tan head and decent lacing. I can’t seem to detect much nose, maybe the slightest touch of malt. The taste is quite strong, however. I’m struck with malt, those strawberry marshmellows in Frankenberry cerial, molasses, caramel, and an alcohol finish. A very interesting taste, indeed.

Apr 2, 2005 This is a rusty brown beer that doesn’t pour much of a head. It has a mild malty aroma. The taste is smooth with no distinct flavor jumping out.

Mar 22, 2005 Deep plum with beautiful cream head. The aroma is molasses, caramel, plum, olive, chocolate and many, many other things. First thing I notice is a very soft mouthfeel. Nice change from drinking alot of IPAs. The creamy texture melts into a sugary-sweet caramel and spice flavor. The finish is warming (alcohol?) My first Doppelbock - so not much to compare to in the category. I like it though!

Mar 22, 2005 Deep dark hazy copper, thin tanned fizzy head. Nice nose on this one with notes of fruit bread drizzled with caramel, toffee, brown sugar, with lighter notes of candied cherry. A nice balance arrives with sweet dark malt jumping out first, but quickly getting a light to moderate hop bitterness to keep the sweetness in check. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, smooth, candied dark fruit and caramel finish. A very nice doppel....

Mar 21, 2005 Pours brown with a ruby tint and a medium quickly dissolving tan head. Aroma of of brown sugar, plums, and alcohol. Flavor of raisins and slight vinous. Malty thick and lightly sweet a a full medium body. Semi dry finish with a bitter and alcoholic end. Nicely warming.

Mar 18, 2005 Sweet malt, dark pit fruit, caramelized malt aroma. Opaque, deep amber brown with decent tan head that recedes to thin cover and ring fairly quickly. Thick malty flavour is very fruity (plum, prune, grape) with just enough hops to take the edge off. Very sweet and malty yet dry and well-attenuated. Medium body with moderate effervescence on the tongue (perhaps a touch strong for a bock). Rich. sweet, malty and definitely enjoyable. Bottle (trade Mar. 2005). Thanks, DocLock!

Mar 14, 2005 Solid performance. Fizzy, amber brown color. Big head that keeps booming in my .5L boot glass. Strong malted spice scent. Taste is full, and of caramel malts, roasted oak and oranges. Spider web like lacing and a creamy head that stays afloat throughout the experience. Toffee-like aftertaste. Alcohol is identifiable throughout. I’m happy that I got the 6-pack because this is a great seasonal beer to have as my daily drinker for the next week.
