On tap at the Eccentric Cafe on 4/28/06: Pours a slightly carbonated clear golden with thin legs. Sweet, lightly citric sour apple and clover honey aroma. Starts light, tart, and fruity with a good balance. Finishes pretty dry and slightly puckering, hiding the alcohol well.

To clear up some definitions here. A Cyser is a fermented beverage that features the majority of its fermentables from apples, and a minority from honey. An apple mead features a majority of fermentables from honey, and a minority from apples. That being said, The nose and appearance were spot on. Lovel clear apple body with slight bubbling. Nose was floral with fresh apple character. Flavour dissapointed, with a thin dry alcoholic beverage. The champange yeast for a poor choice, and contributes to the lack of depth in this beverage. The brewer was unable to define what type of honey was used, stating "its honey we bought in bulk from an avairy. its not clover or alfafa honey, just regular honey."

On tap at the brewery. Intersting. Hazy copper. Nose mostly apples and the taste mostly the same. Some intersing feel to it, kind of like a film from the apple skin like if you eat too many apples with a dry mouth. Thought it was a cider not a mead.

I didn’t think this was terrible. My first mead...it was like an apple cider with a bit of lambic funk going on. Aroma was tart and yeasty...flavor was sour and funky...mouthfeel was extremely light and lowly carbonated.

the problem with this offering was just that there was nothing going on. way too straightforward and one-dimensional. sour and appleish, i forced myself to finish it. pretty lousy.

Had a great and strong apple cider aroma. Flavor was absolutely awful. Really sour and tart. Lots of alcohol and just unpleasent to drink. Pale yellow with no head. A lot like a lambic gueuze

Draft @ Bell’s Eccentric Cafe: Well it looks like I am in the minority here but I liked it. Clear and looks like apple juice but more syrupy. Legs run up the glass. Sweet aroma with nice floral notes. Apples and a big honey appearance. The honey was mostly in the aroma and not as much in the flavor (which works just fine with me). the flavor was of sweet and moderately tart apples. Some honey on the finish. It is like a floral hard cider.

Had a sample glass of this at the brewery last year, nothing remarkable. I cleared my palate and started over.
