Feb 23, 2004 Eccentric is right. I don't have a clue what is going on here because there's so much to it. I can say that it's a murky medium brown with an ok head. Wasn't much to look at, but the aroma and flavor made up for it. Lemon and oregano, maybe coriander stuff that I don't even now about. Some alcohol, but the rest of the ingredients keep it in check. Thick, slick mouthfeel. Weird, but I like it.

Feb 22, 2004 This is one of the most complex beer out on the market. To be truly appreciated you will not be able to agive this a complete rating one the basis of one bottle. Dark ruby appearance, with lots of fruits, and chocolate covered cherries, rum, toffee and raisins. I cannot wait to try this again, and give it a more complete rating.

Feb 22, 2004 Updated: Feb 24, 2004Cloudy brown. Alcohol, caramel and toast in the aroma. Viscous mouthfeel. Has a sort of English BarelyWine feel to it. Rich and sweet, but with a backbone of nice hop bitterness. Nice. Sampled at Ratebeer Southeastern Gathering, Atlanta, 2004.

Feb 22, 2004 Sample glass, RateBeer Southeastern Gathering. Very spicy with lots of cookie malt. Extremely sweet and spicy throughout. Heavy body, creamy/oily texture, soft carbonation. The bottom line is: absolutely unique, I know I’ve under appreciated it here; I’d love to have another bottle to more appropriately study this brew of great depth.

Feb 22, 2004 Reddish brown appearance. Flavor is cherries, nutmeg, nuts, raisins, and chocolate. Very complex. The alcohol was covered up well by the assortment of flavors. Very good.

Feb 22, 2004 Poured light brown with thick head. Hoppy aroma. Some sort of weird plant flavor on the tongue, maybe cilantro. Somewhat sweet but enjoyable.

Feb 21, 2004 Bottle pours a somewhat viscous dark caramel color. Opacity is very much akin to a good stout, very non-transparent. Virtually no head and very little lacing. Guessing this has aged a bit. Smells of malt, molasses, nuts, and some oak aged bourbon. Sorta like a quasi Barleywine crossed with a Strong Ale. Very inviting! Sweet molasses & vanilla up front, as well as some maltiness. Woody (Oak) and Bourbon greet you in the middle, then fade with a sweet hop bite along with some citrusy & nutmeg spices. Sweet from start to finish, very nice. Smooth mouthfeel, great flavors. Hard to believe this is 11%. I'd definately have this again. Thanks goes out to raindog for the trade!

Feb 5, 2004 Updated: Nov 10, 2004Now I have had some fucked up beers, but this one takes the cake. I cannot imagine Bells thinks that it came out exactly how they wanted it, but is that at all possible? Too big of a barleywine maltiness to be even drinkable. Eccentric? Gimme a break and some toothpaste. The only Bell’s beer I cant stand.
