RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 29, 2007 I hate molasses.
Pours pitch black with a large dark tan head. Nose is dusty with strong molasses tones. Flavor is oh so smooth. Strong molasses flavors prevail, but stay perfectly balanced. Feel is thick in the liquid and thin on the carbonation. This is a beautiful stout that is a hard one to surpass. Amazingly crafted and worth seeking out...at all costs.
Lubiere (3256), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 6, 2008 A deep dark black stout with a thin dark brown head, viscous and menacing. A pleasant sweet caramel chocolate with funky creamy character, dried dark fruits, and soy sauce. In mouth, an intense bitter chocolate, coffee, vanilla, warming alcohol and dried fruits, a mother of a stout, with class and clout. Tasted Dec. 2006. sebletitje (270), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 6, 2008 Pours an oil thick black with thick brownish head.
Aroma reminded me of soja mixed with chocolat matls.
Taste sweet (some vanilla), sugary, very thick and heavy beer. This is close to a meal in a bottle.
Mouthfeel of has a good alcohol presence and leaves a nice light coffee aftertaste. Lightly hoppy with some chocoloate bitterness, some barley, malty.
A great brew that you want to enjoy slowly and not cold. TearsforBeers (3), Ohio, USA does not count Sep 5, 2008 Aroma was odd - sometimes a great coffee, chocolate, cararmel smell, but occasionally it would smell horribly of ethanol. The appearance was black, thick, oily, with very little head. Flavor was fantastic - varied flavors emerge and all of them taste dark. Very thick, meal-like beer. Just great. jkaiser (79), USA Sep 3, 2008 This beer is fkn big. A monster of malts and hops. Took me over two hours to finish. Blacker than black with average head but outragous lacing. Aroma is of cocoa and chocolate. Taste of intense creamy malts and medium to high hops. Good god! bconley (14), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 3, 2008 Awesome! Lots of flavors come to mind, all of them are dark....coffee, chocolate, licorice. Really nice smell. Black in body, almost a redish brown head. Bells is my favorite brewer at the moment.
