Braudog (3463), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Jan 15, 2007 Draft at KClinger’s. Pitch black; it sat for a while so I’m not sure on the head. What was left was tan and thin. Nice thick dark beer; bit of an anise aroma, well-rounded roasty flavors wtih a bit of a licorice twist. Well done. (#2650, 1/14/07)
MAP (894), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Oct 6, 2008 On the dark side of what I would expect from a dubbel. Pretty full aroma of roasted caramel, malt. A hint chocolate is there as well. Flavor is really smooth (thank you bottle conditioning). There is a rich brown sugar, yeast and caramel flavor to this one. Palate is extremely smooth up front, rich and robust, then ends with a slight bitterness. Another excellent beer from our friends at Bells. shanepardue (78), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pours dark with brown head and has a sweet chocolate flavor ending with a more robust dark coffee ending. Delicious Dubbel! carl4beer (286), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Oct 5, 2008 12oz. pours black with tan head. aroma is bitter sweet chocolate, coffee, and dried fruit. Mouthful is rich and full flavor with cocoa, coffee, molasses. very intense brew. nice. santoslhalper (185), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2008 2 year old bottle. Dark black with a thin beige head. Smells of molasses, chocolate, coffee, raisins, grapes, and dates. Strong, potent flavor with lots of cocoa, espresso, figs, plums, molasses, soy sauce, and vinegar. Aging nicely, actually better than I expected, and I bet it could go for a few more years.. jezmez68 (281), Chesterton, Indiana, USA Oct 4, 2008 Beautiful beer. Pours almost black. Smells fruity and slightly of monk basement. Tastes are many here: chocolate, coffee, fruit, licorice and dirt finish. I like it. I think it’s a decent example of the style.
