Smells of coffee, chocolate, some spicy hints, roasted malt, vanilla. Tastes sweet and semi bitter with a coffee flavor that is complimentary rather than the dominant feature. Some dark fruity hints emerge on the finish. The body on this one is slick. Very enjoyable beer. fattibobatti (246), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Pours from the bottle a deep black/ebony color under a 1/2 " dense tan head. Attractive foam retention with creamy, paisley shaped swirls accumulated on the surface. No lacing noted. Aromas nicely show off a rich, dense freshly ground espresso bean presence supported by fainter smells of vanilla bean, dark chocolate and blackstrap molasses. Mouthfeel was great for this beer style being creamy and smooth, but not overtly heavy or thick. Initial flavor starts out bittersweet with notes of dark espresso, semi-sweet chocolate, roasted malts and vanilla cream. Finishes with some mild alcohol warmness and a touch of hop/fresh-brewed coffee bitterness and acidity. If you’re looking to sample a coffee flavored stout I would say this would be one of the best to try. cbeers21 (576), Miami, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Black with tan head, which lasts. Obvious coffee aromas, which are the dominating force in the taste was well. Creamier body reflects vanilla and caramel notes as well. Pretty well organized, bittering hop finish and a nice eye opener of a beer. dogfish120love (272), west hartford, Connecticut, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown/black, beautiful light brown head. Aroma is a very nice coffee/espresso. Flavor is in your face coffee, maybe a touch of vanilla hiding in the background. A little too bitter for me, but still a good stout. nqualls (1428), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

I’m usually a big Bell’s fan and usually like the style, but one thing I guess I’m realily sensitive to is the cigarette-ashy flavors that come out in a lot of espresso stouts. This is sticky-sweet syrup poured over cigarette ash, and I simply can’t do it.
A shame.
