Pours black with a brown head that fades over time. Nose is chocolate covered coffee bean. Body is strikingly sweet. I started drinking this slightly chilled and could barely stomach it, it was just so over powering coffee liqueur. DRINK THIS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE. By letting it warm up, the sweetness subsides a bit and more complexity in the roasted flavors comes through to balance out the sweetness. Smooth mouthfeel and a semi-dry finish. That was a close one, and first glance I thought I was going to have to give Bell’s a bad review. stefanje (947), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 13, 2008 12 oz bottle at the BA Speedway line tasting (provider unknown). Poured a dark black color with a big tan head. The aroma really blew me away, it was rich with pepper and spices layered over complex coffees. The taste did not quite live up to the nose, it was loaded with good coffee flavors but the spiciness of the nose never really materialized in the taste. Still this is a relatively small complaint, this was a superbly drinkable concoction. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy. The flavor was long with lingering mocha. Overall: I loved it. One of the best stouts anywhere ever. Pastor (509), Maine, USA

Bottle poured into a tulip produced a good finger worth of tan head that goes to a nice ring of lace all on top of a black body
Aromas of coffee filled my nose along with nice malt sweetness
The coffee flavor is great the malt keeps it from being to bitter nice smooth mouthfeel not much carbonation

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown with a frothy head. Big java mocha espresso aroma with blackened malts. Medium body and smooth. Strong black coffee/espresso and bitter bakers chocolate flavors without much sweetness. This beer was better on tap. alexanderj (2270), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 10, 2008 Bottle; poured a dark brown/black with a small brown head. Aroma was heavy on the coffee with some dark chocolate elements. Flavor was heavy on the coffee. Not big on coffee, but after a bit, it wasn’t so dominating. More roasted and chocolate notes began to show. Overall it was a little one dimensional for my liking. Would have liked something to help balance the coffee flavors. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Nice mahogany body with quarter thin latte head. Aroma does exhibit expected deep roasted kona coffee beans & dark chocolate. Flavor is rich on the gulp with lingering coffee bitterness. Good body in this one...thick enough to coat, thin enough to avoid coagulation. juiceisloose (671), Windermere, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 3, 2008 Poured a dark brown almost black color with a thin, bubbly tan head that settled quickly. This had a huge roasted coffee smell wih a little bit of chocolate in there as well. The taste was much the same with a big roasted coffee flavor with a touch of dark chocolate and sweet cream. The roasty coffee flavors really stand out in this one. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a roasted bitter finish from the coffee. This one is easy to drink, but maybe a touch too much coffee and not enough body to be a great stout. Another solid offering from Bells though.
