This had a huge roasted coffee smell wih a little bit of chocolate in there as well. The taste was much the same with a big roasted coffee flavor with a touch of dark chocolate and sweet cream. The roasty coffee flavors really stand out in this one. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a roasted bitter finish from the coffee. This one is easy to drink, but maybe a touch too much coffee and not enough body to be a great stout. Another solid offering from Bells though. MrChopin (656), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2008 Pours black with minor off-white/tan head. Nose is dominated by bitter coffee. Flavor is more balanced with sweet chocolate notes and bitter coffee still present. A sweet but slightly dry and bitter finish. Creamy beer with some nice flavors that I personally like, but overall, not very interesting and kind of plain. daknole (3000), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

Coffee is the primary aroma and flavor. The only downside is that the coffee flavor reminds me of instant coffee...but the beer is great, especially as it warms up. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2008 Good Java Stout. Aroma is coffee - smells somewhat like burnt coffee as opposed to freshly brewed, but what do you expect? With a coffee nose this strong, you get the good and the bad. Has almost a tobacco-ish smokey flavor. Pours black with tan head, very little carbonation. Rciesla (3750), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Aroma is burnt coffee, roasty coffee, chocolate, and some etoh. Flavor over emphasizes the burnt coffee flavor. A little creamier would have made for a more enjoyable experience. redlight (1490), Winter Park, Florida, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 16, 2008 Pours a very dark brown, nearly black, with just a ring of light brown head. Delicious aroma of roasted black coffee, peat, and chocolate. Taste is true to the smell if a little sweeter at first with the chocolate. The body is then very smooth and the finish really drags out the coffee and heavily roasted malt flavor.
