natejgood (129), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 7, 2007 Pours a rich dark brown with almost not head. It smells of chocolate, malts, and coffee. It is much thicker in the mouth than it looked when poured. The flavor is a little bit bitter with strong coffee flavors and some chocolate somewhere in the backgroud. The aftertaste is very stongly of coffee. I think this beer may have a little too much coffee flavor for me without much else to offset it. It’s a strong flavored stout.
changeup45 (567), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 31, 2008 Pours a black color with a nice tan head with a little retention. Lots of roasted malts and coffee in the aroma with a creamy scent that blends in nicely. Not all that complex but a very good tasting beer with excellent drinkability. Roasted malty flavor with lots of coffee, as expected, and some milk chocolate, mostly towards the finish. I’d say it’s medium-bodied, creamy, perhaps a shade thin, with light dry bitterness. Nice beer timsilvia32 (206), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Aug 30, 2008 A black pour with a solid brown head. Smells like a cup of espresso. Tasted very roasty, malts and coffee with some mocha or bakers chocolate. Coffee bitters linger at the finish, but not too bitter. Alcohol is well hidden, a little warming effect after you get into the beer a bit. Very pleasant, maybe even better than the Beer Geek in my opinion. thegreenrooster (1492), St.louis, Missouri, USA Aug 29, 2008 Pour is a black with a big thick tan head. Aroma is nice with lots of roasted malts and a nice chocolate. Flavor is also decent with some roasted nuts burnt malts and some wet hops. The coffee is there but it probably one of the lighter flavors to come out in the beer. Still this is a decent beer worth looking for. LilBeerDoctor (508), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 26, 2008 Bottle, batch 7706, courtesy of adrian910ss (thanks Adrian!). Pours a dark inky black with a super pretty dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, lots of roasted and burnt peanuts, roasted and burnt malts. Taste is very similar with lots of peanuts, roasted/burnt malts, and coffee icecream. Not AS coffee-rich as the fresher batch, a bit sweeter and mellower, but still so good. Smooth drinking. Not as rich as Expedition, obviously, but it’s quite good. Alcohol is a bit strong for a 7.5%. Otherwise, yumzo! One of the better stouts I’ve had in awhile. fredandboboflo (507), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 26, 2008 Bottle, 8307, which may be the one I received courtesy of sprinkle, or his may be the one that my girlfriend is currently downing. Thanks either way. Now, of the coffee stouts I’ve had so far, this one defines coffee. Every possible aspect of coffee is encapsulated in this beer. Coffee beans, black coffee, roasted coffee, espresso, coffee ice cream, bitter coffee, sweet coffee, charred coffee, etc., etc. All well balanced, great base stout, all that necessary stuff too. Either way, this is a coffee treat. Fun one.
