Coffee grounds, vanilla, decaf-black like my mother used to drink. Smooth with lightly acidic finish. Very drinkable. I have a bias for Bells - I come in expecting a good pour every time. More than a lot of other coffee stouts or porters out there. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with a subtle mocha flavor. Reminds me of an Arby’s Jamocha shake. Flavor is coffee, toasted malts, bordering burnt, aniseed. Finishes bittersweet. A lot going on in the mouth, but not well harmonized to my tongue. Aroma is loaded with torrefied coffee and roastiness.
Taste, coffee with nice chocolate malts and light mocha. Leaves a light bitter hoppy finish, mouthfeel is thick and malty.
This one is loaded with nice coffee. Definitely a great coffee stout beer.
bubbleflubber (666), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Nov 17, 2008 Pours virtually black into the glass, with a nice deep brown soapy head. This diminishes as the brew warms, leaving spotty lace. The nose is of strong Sanka instant coffee, with some dark chocolate brewing in there as well. The flavors follow much in tow, with a huge java effervescence backed with bittersweet chocolates and a mild bitter hop back that complements the pull. The mouthfeel is nice, but a bit anemic for the huge roasted contingencies. I like the brew, but will be a specialty occasion pour for me, as I’m not a coffee drinker... but this, for what it represents, is very, very nice.
