The taste is dominated by roasted malt, bitter, strong, and burnt. It’s good, but I was looking for more from Bell’s on this one.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2010 Bottle via trade. Pours black like coffee with a small creamy tan head that lasts quite awhile. Aroma is lots of coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate. Pretty intense. Flavor is really good and coffee-dominated. Intense mocha with some nice sweet caramel malts and sharp roastiness. Medium bodied with coffee bitterness on the palate and somewhat low carbonation. I’m a sucker for coffee beers, and this is a very good one. beernbourbon (318), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Bottle thanks to Dakine. Pour is an oily almost-black with a thin brown head. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malt, light ash, and coffee. Flavor is also roasted malt and coffee with a long ashy and espresso finish. It is what you would expect. It’s done well as one would expect from Bells. Arayaga2 (1001), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Black coffee black with a light tan head. Aroma is sweetened coffee, and the taste is nice and even, but more of carbonated coffee than beer, with alcohol well hidden. Carbonation is as perfect as it could be. phaleslu (584), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Ludlow Wines. Pours very dark brown with a small brown head that leaves some brown around the edges. Big roast coffee aroma, with notes of burnt toast, smoke, and ash. Flavor is also a lot of roast coffee, with notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, smoke, and burnt toast. Smoky finish and aftertaste. Bitter, but mostly roasty and smoky- a little sweetness helps make this more palatable. Light-medium bodied, with a gritty roast coffee mouthfeel. I’m not much of a coffee drinker, but regular coffee drinkers- especially those that like it black- should like this a lot. MereLikesBeer (158), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Dec 19, 2009 I shared a bottle of this with beerbaron617 today. It’s the first time I’ve tried this beer and I feel like it has a lot of good things going on, and yet at the same time it’s not amazing. It has an awesome aroma, lot’s of coffee, I mean, it’s all coffee, tiny bit of hops, but really it’s all coffee. It’s super dark and opaque, and it’s seemingly thick in the glass. This coffee tastes only OK, it’s not a show stopper by any means. If you enjoy coffee this beer would be the best thing for you. It’s flavor is predominantly coffee, but has a weird taste of licorice also. I think this beer would go great with a brunch. BeerBaron617 (313), Novi, Michigan, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2009 First beer review since joining the US Army!!! I shared this with my beer buddy MereLikesBeer. It poured an opaque black-brown with tan head. The aroma was nice, with lots of roasty coffee notes. Unfortunately the taste was like the smell, only a lot stronger, and not quite balanced. I expected a lot more from this brewery ,and this beer, and it just didn’t deliver. Oh well. wavers1 (178), novato, California, USA
