Has the deep roasted malt tastes, but not overpowering like some stouts that taste like an ash tray. Smooth and creamy feel. Roasted malt blended with deep chocolate and coffee. All well blended. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Pours pitch black with a large tan head, that fades thin with some bubbly lacing. Aroma is very roasted - coffee, some ash, and a bit of coffee and chocolate. Taste is very smooth and creamy - some hoppiness up front, burnt toast and roasts, and leaves you with some smokiness and bits of chocolate. One of my favorite stouts. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2008 As black a beer as I’ve ever seen. Pretty much opaque. No head. Big stout aroma (coffee, chocolate, roast, molasses) with some astringency underneath. Hoppier than most stouts, not too sweet, and not a lot of bitterness from the roasted malt. Body is a tad thin. Very good, not great. naivepegasus (184), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 29, 2008 pours black with several fingers of tan, slowly dissipating head. Really nice, softly sweet hazelnut odor. The taste is different then what you’d expect from the odor, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Taste of burnt toast starts off as it melds in with chocolate and ends with a nice, smokey aftertaste. Really solid stout travita (1920), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 26, 2008 Black in color with a nice looking tan head. Looks inviting. Good lacing. Smell is roasty, a nutty coffee aroma, dark chocolate, some licorice. Taste is a nice roastiness, coffee, licorice, and chocolate. Almost too roasty in taste. SSSteve (2071), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Bottle.Pours BLACK like oil with a medium tan head. Aroma of roast malt, coco, and coffee. This brew has a very smooth creamy falvor with notes of licorice, raisin, smoke, vanilla, coffee, and so on,and so on. I could find no fault with this stout, other than I believe it made me slightly flatulent, good stuff buddy.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 22, 2008 The lacing is attractive and lasting. Aroma is one dimensional: only smoked malts, not even sweet and no evidence of hops. Yet mouthfeel is smooth and even; very heavily roasted malt and some burnt bitter chocolate combine for a warming and relaxing flavour. Finish is full and bitter. An appreciable beer.
